Incense and Rose Water Set with Tray
D
onated to CGSC in 1983 by Ebrahim Rajab E. Al-Kharji, this incense and rose water set includes: one incense storage container, one incense burner, two rose water vessels, and a tray. Rose water is considered a holy water in the Arabian culture. The essence of pure rose water comes from the Damask rose. Like all roses, it has a strong and pleasant scent, but the scent is not the rose water’s most significant attribute. Rose water is known to have healing properties that increase longevity for the individual who bathes in it.
The set depicted has an immaculate, golden appearance. Each container is engraved with spiralling floral patterns and other intricate ornament. The tray that holds these objects of significance is adorned with a series of indentations along its shallow watery border, allowing for the easy placement of Damask rose petals.
